Nil Sailed—April 17. Nil IN PORI Lily Petone Pareora Kennedy Eosamond Himitangi The Eosamond is expected to sail tomorrow for Lyttelton. The Kini should get in to-night or tomorrow morning and sail for Lyttelton. The Janet Nicoll is due to-morrow morning to load for Oamaru and Dunedin. The Wainui arrives to-morrow morning from usual ports and sails at noon on return journey. The Corinna leaves Dunedin on Sunday via usual ports for Grey.
The Herald arrives to-morrow to load fcr Onehunga. A steamer in a passage from Amsterdam through the Zuyder Zee was gripped in icefloes, and could not be extricated. The passengers walked over the ice and reached shore after a march of two hours and a half. On account of the quarantine restrictione at Wellington and Auckland, the Union Company have decided that passengers from Sydney detained on board at these ports will be charged for their maintenance during the period of quarantine at the rate of (is per diem for saloon and 3s for steerage. The United States Congress is considering proposals for a gigantic ship canal to carry the largest sea-going steamers from New York to Chicago. The Canal is to «ost eighty millions.
