ACCIDENT ON BULLER ROAD.O

A startling accident befell Mr A. W. Mills, at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon, on the Buller road, four miles above the punt, when returning from a drive says the News, in company with Messrs S. IJeid (who was driving) and W. Ptogers. The party came suddenly upon Mr D. Mutton, who was dragging some ferns across tho road. This caused the horse to shy and back towards a precipice, Messrs Beid and Piogers jumpod out of tho trap, but Mr Mills was unable to escape, being seated ia ihe middle, and ho was carried over the bank into a creek bed amongst rough stones, a distance of some 40 feet. Tho trap was badly damaged, the horse escaped uninjured, but Mr Mills sustained some painful injuries. His companions rescued him, and Mr A. G. Hill fortunately coming along the road, drove the sufferer to tho Nine-rnile, and Mr. Grooby brought him to town. Dr Mackenzie's services were at onco brought into requisition. He four.d a painful wound requiring seven stitches, nabf.y cut under the eye, and bruises on many part 3 of tho body. Mr Mills was stiff and sore to-day, but his condition is not now in any way dangsrous. He had a very narrow escape, though.
