[by electric telegraph—copyright.] (i'ke press association.) Sweeping the Country clear. Forty Boers elect Steyn President. Kecoived this day at 8 49 a. m. London, April 10. The Standard's Pretoria correspondent states that no large commandos with guns arc operating, but marauders are active everywhere and their suppression will be protracted ; but preparations to sweep tracks more completely than heretofore possible are in progress. Forty Boers at Boshof solemnly re elected Steyn as President. Received this day at 8 51 a in. London, April 16.
Milner will shortly lake two or three months rest in England before grappling with the land settlements of the Transvaal and Orange River Colony. Private J, Moare, of the New Zealand Rough Riders, died at Pretoria of dysentry. Wellington, April 17. Kitchener cables to the Premier that the special inducements offered to officers and men of old contingents to remain is one step in rank for the officers and promotion to sergeants, and for others if recommended with South African irregulars rates of pay.
