Christchuech, April 10. A meeting of delegates from different A. and P. Associations was held to-day under the auspices of the Canterbury A. and P. Association to consider the question of the federation of New Zealand with Australia. There was a fair attendance There were several speakers for and against. Mr T.W. Adams moved: “ That it was desirable for New Zealand to federate with Australia,’’
An amendment was moved by Mr Sttidholme, jnr., of Ashburton, ‘‘That the information before the meeting is not sufficient to warrant an expression of any opinion but this meeting calls on the Government to ascertain on what terms the Commonwealth wouhl admit New Zealand; also to lay before the public their estimate of the cost of federation, and an opinion of how such cost could be raised.”
' Both motion and amendment were rejected. Hon. W. Rolleston spoke strongly against Federation.
