At an inquest on William Miller, a young man who died suddenly on the Ist March, a verdict from natural causes was returned. No direct cause of the death was discovered. Dr Girdler quoted medical authority to show of a certain number of sudden deaths, which cannot bo accounted for. Suicide. Pahiatua, This Day. An aged man and* an old resident suicided yesterday afternoon by cutting his throat with a razor. Depressed spirits is supposed to have been the cause. Some time ago he was examined by the doctors as insane, but they disagreed A Maori Hall. Dunedin, April 9. A native hall for religions services and public mootings was opened at an ancient Maori settlement at Henley to-day. Tbc Union Jack with the name of the hall on it, was hoisted by Ur T Parata, U.H.R., who with Mr W. Carncross, M.ELR , were the principal speakers. A large of visaing Maoris and pakehas were present and were regaled at dinner on the opening of the Maori oven in which a bullock, four sheep, pigs, etc., were roasted whole with the puddings etc. Wellington City Loan.

We r.LTNGTON, April 9 A meeting of ratepayers was held tonight for the purpose of co isidoring the City Canned’s loan proposals. It was agreed that a poll should be taken on the proposal. The loans are as follows: £225,000 for construction of an electric tramway and extension of tho system to Island Bay ; £55,000 for street improvement and £50,000 for tho erection of a town hall and municipal offices. Inquest. Napier, April 9. At the inquest to day on the body of W. 11, Taylor, found in the Iron Pot yesterday, the jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death through falling over the wharf mistaking it for Bridge Street and were of opinion that the accident might bo attributable to the harbour not being properly lighted and recoin mended that a lamp be erected at the north end of tho bridge.
