The Victory of Advance.
Advance’s victory was most popular. Cheering commenced as the horse passed the pos-. It was renewed when ho returned to scale, and taken up again when the rider (Jenkins) weighed in. There was not a semblance of a fluke about the win. The race was run to suit La Carabine, who obtained considerable advantage from the friendly opening made for her at the home turn. Word has been received from tho New Zealand owner of Advance quoting a price to Sir Rupert Clarke. Tho figure is withheld, and Clarke’s intentions arc unknown.
The Herald says that seldom lias a more brilliant battle been fought out in Randwick. Jenkins handled Advance with good judgment, and the gallant black finished with greater resolution than lie displayed since his arrival in Australia. Though beaten, the Victorian marc was not disgraced. In the meeting of such a brilliant pair, the third and fourth days aic looked forward to with great interest. The Telegraph says that despite the belief in some quarters that Advance won easily-, keen observers are satisfied and believe that lie just got there and no more.
