COMMONWEALTH ELECTIONS.
[feu press association.—copyright.] Eeee'vod this day at 9 45 a.m. Sydney, This Day. Sawers, a Protectionist, displaces Louddalc, a Free Trader, in New England. Melbourne, This Day. Sir John Quick is a candidate for the Speakership of the Federal House. Perth, This Day. Forrest is disappointed at the elections. Only one-third voted at Perth and Freemantlo, and gives but a feeble indication of public opinion. Forrest considers that the elections to the Senate on the basis of one electorate means practically that the selection is handed over to the goldfields’population, whose interest centres in one industry. Hence the solid vote for Free Trade. Hobart, This Day. The Hare system of complexities is greatly delaying the Federal return. It will probably be Thursday before they arc known.
