Wc regret to learn that tho lad Richards who met with an accident at Brunnerton some time ago, is in danger of losing his leg. He lias already undergone one operation but it is feared that another more serious one will be required.
The world’s membership of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, which lias just concluded a conference in Wellington, is upwards of 800,000.
In 1899 the Government offered a bonus of Is per gallon (£5000) on the first 100,000 gallons of mineral oil produced from shale obtained in the colony, the oil to bo of a quality approved of by the Government, and to be sold at a price not exceeding Is a gallon at any port of shipment in the colony. The company working the Orepuki claim (described recently in the Star) has been pushing along its operations for the bonus, and in order to afford encouragement, the Government has extended the time within which the claim can be made until 31st Decembo next.
