THE DRUIDS SOCIAL.

The Druids hold a very successful social on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of members. The hall had been tastefully decprated by Brothers Rodgers and T. Bedmond, and a prominent position in the room —was an excellent enlargement of past and present officers of the Lodge—the work of our local artist, Mr James Ring, and without doubt one of the best, if not the best specimen of photography that gentleman has executed"

Punctually at eight o'clock the Arch Druid. Bro. E. Asliton took the chair, and after grace had been said, invited all to partake of the good things provided, and any one who has been pvivihged to attend' a Druids Supper, knows that tliere is always plenty and to spare After disposing of some of the good things aforesaid the Chairman proposed the usual Druidical Toast "I he King and the Order" after which a verse of "God save the Xing. During the evening the following toasts wore duly honored : " The Grand Lodge and Board of Directors," " The Brunner, lleefton, and Lord Roberts' Lodge, " The retiring District President,' "I he Chairman," "P. A. Bro. J. Chase,' who is leaving the district, and "The Secretary." We need hardly say they were all drunk with musical honors. P. D. 1 • Bro. J. M'Brcarty, at the request of the Chairman, presented the retiring D. P. Bro. C. A. Wainwright with a P. D. 1. collar, as a token of respect and esteem from the Brunner, Reefton and Ahaura Lodges. In making the presentation, the worthy Doctor said: It afforded not only himself but all members of the Order on the Coast very much pleasure to be able to testify in some way the energy displayed by Bro. Wainwright for the good of the Order. The Brother had held the office of Arch Druid for twelve months; during which time the Lodge had been very much advanced. He had obtained the highest office he could hold on the Coast. He filled that office with credit to the Order and himself, and he hoped Bro. Wainwright would long be spared to aid and assist them by his counsel and advise. The Doctor then placed the collar upon Bro. C. A. Wainwright amid loud applause, hut the Doctor said lie had not yet finished. Although the Lodge appreciated to a certain extent Bro. Wainwright's good work,, he had also to notify that the Grand Lodge also recognised the D. P. efforts, and had instructed him to present Bro. Wainwright with a handsomely framed diploma as their "S. L." token of appreciation.

Bro. Wainwright, in thanking the members, said that most certainly all the praise was not due to him, but rather to the past and present officers, who had always assisted him. He would not detain tnem with a long speech, but would have by way of a word in season to advise all the young members to put their shoulder to the wheel and they would all have an opportunity of reaching the position he had just passed through. During the evening songs were rendered by Bros. Redmond, Copely, Rogers, Chase, E. Asliton, J. Verguson, M'Lcnnan, P. Nelson, and by special request Mr Arnott also sang "Love's Dream," and received an encore. Recitations by Bros. Barltrop and Craig. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and thought the evening all too short, when at 11 o'clock the Chairman closed the proceedings with a verse of Auld Lang Syne. We omitted to mention that during the evening; letters of apology were read from D.P. Bro. Arbuckle and P.D.P. Bro. Guthbelert.
