The return from the Hartley and Uilcy dredge is 77ozs 12d\vts for 130 hours. On Thursday 40 diseased cattle, which had been collected in the Foxton district, state the local paper, were sent to Longburn to be destroyed. This makes a total of 120 head of cattle that have been collected in Palmerston and Foxton districts since last December last. The "'Farmer" is informed that a thorough inspection of the districts mentioned is now complete Five and ninsponce per pair for fowls was the lowest tender received by the Wellington Hospital Trustees yesterday, when the annual tenders for supplies were opened. Members of tha Board unanimously decided that such a figure was monstrous, and in place of accepting any tender decided to open a fowl run of their own. The suggested extension of the breakwater at New Plymouth doe 3 not seem to meet with unqualified approval. At a recent meeting of the Harbour Board a member said, with respect to the loan proposal now being discussed, that as sure as he lived, if the loan was carried for extending the breakwater no extra rato would be collected in the country except at the muzzle of a gun.
