Mail Record Breaking. Auckland, This Day. The mail steamer Sierra made a record trip of 1G days 9 hours, beating the Sonomas record by 10 hours. The Seventh Contingent. Wellington, This Day. _ The Seventh Contingent went tin's morning to the Trentham in dying column order, and spend the rest of the week in camp there, marching about rough country, skirmishing on hills and practising at butts. The Rugby Union. The New Zealand Rugby Union starts the new year with a credit balance of about £4O. The committee of the Union is negotiating for a visit from a New South Wales team during the coming winter, under conditions expressed by a majority of Unions last year, and it is proposed that another conference of referees should bo held in Wellington this year. During the past year there were 29 disqualifications, and 14 appeals. The Seventh Contingent. Wellington, This Day. It has been definitely decided that Lieut-Colonel Porter shall take the Seventh Contingent as far as the Capo.
