DR. BARNARDO'S HOME.

The following amounts collected in aid of Dr. Earnardo's Home has been sent homo per last mail: — Per Mr G. Russell, Marsden £1 0 0 Miss M'Kechnie, Maori Creek 18 0 Misses Wiedon and Firth, Cobden 2 3 0 Greymouth Committee ... 25 10 0 Total 30 0 0 Supplementary to pay draft.. 09 0 Total !) 0 It will be noted from the above statement that those who took this matter in j hand have met with very fair success, and we are informed a draft for £3O was posted to Dr. Barnardo by last 'Frisco mail. The collectors found an idea prevalent in the minds of some, who were asked to subscribe, to the effect "that Dr Barnardo refused to see Mr Swingland when he called at the Home in London." This statement we are now asked to deny, and in proof quote an extract from a letter written by Mr P. Swingland to a resident of this town, which we have seen and which reads as follows: "I called three times at Dr Barnardo's Homes, but did not see Dr Barnardo. Upon the last time of calling, the girl in the office asked me to name a time to meet Dr Barnardo, but this I was unable to do, as I was just leaving for Scotland. This clearly proves Mr Swingland does not accuse Dr Barnardo of any discourtesy, and should dispel from the minds of some a wrong impression.
