(per press association.)
Wang.vnui, This Day,
It was a lovely morning for shooting, with just a light breeze from the right. There was some excellent shooting made at the 500 yards.
In the Hawkes Bay match, Marshall of Wellington, who made the possible at the same range yesterday with seven shots, repeated the performance this morning, but with ten shots shots. Marshall is firing with a Martini-Henry, and therefore has a handicap of two points.
At the next rango, 600 yards, Watts, of Cnristchurch scored 49, and there were several others close up.
The challenging of shots was frequent and in the majority of instances the decision was given in favor of the competitors. The markers claim that at time 3 it was most difficult to discern the small holes made by the 303 bullets. Prizes are to be given to the markers having a loss per centa'iC of challenges against them. This is likely to make an improvement in the marking as the meeting progresses.
