Two Sudden Deaths. Auckland, This Day; T\'m. Miller, aged 19 years, was riding on his horse at Parnell when he suddenly cried " I'm done," and died in five minutes. The Eer. Wcinata, of To Aara, a; Native Church of England clergyman; was taken ill at Kaitara and died in a few minutes. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause. A Caution to Newspapers. WBLtixcifON, March 21. Tlios. Albert, publisher of the "Mangaweka Settler" was fined £2 and costs for publishing an advertisement offering £IOOO for an Art Union at Sydney. The advertisement was sent to them from the promoters and inserted in the ordinary course. An Illicit Stilt.
Auckland, March 21. The Customs discovered an illicit still ne.r Coromandel today and arrested three men named Ferguson, McCormac.£ and M'Lcan. The existence of this still his been suspected for two years. Trada Disputes. The carpenters and joiners dispute was before the Conciliation Board to-day. Employers refused to accept the Board's award. In the ironbuilder's dispute the employers refused to accept the Court's finding unless amended. Claim Agunst a Friendly Society "Wellington, March 21. The Stipendiary Magistrate decided today that he had no -jurisdiction in a case where a member of the Wharf Employees Benefit Society brought a claim against the Society for £7 15s sick pay, as section 27 of the Friendly Society's Act 1882 provides that disputes under the rules of a registered he decided in. the manner directed by such rules and such decision shall he final. Conciliation .and Arbitration. District Court Judge Backhouse appointed by the New South Wales Government to visit this colony to enquire into the working of the Industrial and Conciliation Ac:, arrived by the Mokoia, and was met by the Premier. Dunedin City Trams. Dunedin, March 21. The City tramways were taken over by the corporation to-day. Suburban Mayors, Councillors and others were entertained at luncheon by the City corporation and tramway directors. \ Stratford Railway. Stratford, This Day. From official information received the first sod of the Stratford-Whangamona Railway will be turned in Oelia street, Stratford, next Thursday. Extensive preparations will be made in the celebration of the event.
