SHIPPING INTELLIGENCE.
Altogether 2,000,000 tons of shipping were required last year to carry troops, arras, ammunition, and supplies to South Africa in connection with the war. A new five-masted sailing ship, length -100 ft, breadth of!ft Oinand depth Tilt Tin, has been ordered to be built at Gccstcmunde for the Hamburg firm of F. Lacisx. This will bo a much larger boat than the celebrated five-masted Potosi belonging to the same firm. Her carrying capacity will bo 8200 tons, while that of the Potosi is 6200 tons. The apparatus for the lighthouse which is to be established on Kahurangi Point, between Nelson and Westport, has been ordered from England. When intimation has been received that it is ready for shipment the Minister of Marine will give instructions to proceed with the construction of the tower and the quarters for the keepers.
