GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB.
The weather was glorious for the firstday of the autumn meeting, hold on Saturday. The course was in magnificent order, and the racing on the whole good. The want of more horses—a general complaint in the Middle Island —was felt, the fields being at times small. The attendance, about 1,5C0, was not so large as on former occasions, although the money (£3,255) that wont through the totalisator was a trifle more than on the first day of the autumn meeting of last year. The new starter got his horses well away and was repeatedly cheered. In the last race two horses got a bad start through Osborne, who was holding Abaydos, jumping on one side at the start and getting in front of Will-o’-the-Wisp and Haria. The occurrence was quite unintcntial. In the hurdle race Apremcte fell at the last hurdle and rolled over, but fortunately the jockey escaped unhurt. The win of Sanfoin, owned by Mr. Henry Redwood who was at the meeting, was a very popular one. The following are the events ;
