IMPORTANT TO APPLICANTS FOR OLD AGE PENSIONS.

At the Magistrate’s Court at Reefton before R. S. Hawkins S.M., on the loth inst, one Walsh an Old Age Pensioner was convicted of having wilfully made a false statement to obtain a Pension certificate.

The Pensioner was proved to have considerably understated his income in the Income and Property Statement under Section 35 of the Act. The Magistrate in view of the fact that there had been no previous conviction on this Act, and the general character and circumstances of the applicant, did not imprison but fined the applicant £5 hut intimated that in future he might hold it his duty to inflict imprisonment. The power in the Act is to imprison for six months with or without hard labor.
