DR EDGING AND MINING NOTES.
The statutory meeting of the Grey River Consol i Gold Dredging Company was held on Friday evening, (says the Christchurch Press-), when Mr W. Warded presided, and there was a fairly largo attendance of shareholders. The following directors were appointed: Messrs \V. Warded, C. D. Lightband, Charles Hid, Charles Panned, J. H Maynard, and E. A. Wickes. Thela't-named gentleman is vhc resident director on the West Coast. The shareholders present instructed the directors-to take immediate steps to have the claim bored before any outlay in connection with the dredge is made. ‘ Mr H. A. Bruce was appointed permanent secretary to the Company. Mr James Kelman, chairman of directors of ih-.’ Staff jrd-Waimea Gold Dredgin"Gompam, is at present on the West Ooasb says the “Alexandra Herald.” and is personally conducting further prospecting operations on the Company’s claim. Mr Kelman reports that in all shafts put down, the prospects obtained were highly satisfactory, and fully bear out the results of the first prospecting operations. It is ■xpectcd that the Kloadykc dredge, which has been purchased by the Company, can bo placed on the claim in working order within five months from date. Tenders for the removal of the dredge to the Coast ire now being considered. It is estimated that it will not be necessary to call up mere than 15s or IGs per share, of the capita', so that the Company will be in a satisfactory financial position when operations are commenced.
Tho Secretary, Mr H. A. Bruce, of tho Waiwhero Sluicing and Dredging Company, informs (us, the Christchurch Pres s,) that tho manager, on the 6th inst., reported that three shifts were working with a fair flow from tho supply of water, and that tho cl eths were looking better than they had for the ten days previous. The amalgamators have not yet been able to overtake tho sand stacked, so that the result of the washing up will not be known, at least, before the end of the present week. At a meeting of the directors, of the Leviathan Freehold Gold Dredging Company, held 1 ist evening, a call (the 2nd.) ,f 2s per share was made. The secretary was instructed to call a special meeting, is soon as the plans were received from .he engineer*, Me srsCutten Bros. The Pactolus No?. 2 and ti Dredging Companies will c ill tenders for building pontoon?, in the course of a few clays.
Tenders close on Tuesday next, March 12th; for building pontoons for tho Beefton Gold Dredging Co. (Limited.) A press telegram received from Auckland states, that during February the Now Zealand Crown Mine treated 2,801 tons of ore for a return of bullion valued at £1 502, During ten days ending March 2nd., tho Waitaia Gold Mining Company treated 106 tons of ore for bullion sold for £591. In America dredges are now being constructed on a much larger and stronger type than those used in New Zealand. The buckets lift double the quantity of stull' and the engine is generally 300 h.p, The pumping gear, too, is on a muoo larger scale, as also the tables. It has been found that it pays much better to rnn a dredge of this class, as the breakages are fewer, and the expenses much less considering tho amount of ground worked.
