Moss and Co will sell at their yards Preston Eoad, on Thursday 14:h March at 12 80 p. m. 40 fat cattle and 150 fat sheep. Mr Flanagan asks the Borough Council £IOO and twenty feet of Boundary Street as compensation for permission to allow the Town Kail to be erected there,
At the meeting of the Borough Council to beheld to-morrow, the following notice of motion given by the Mayor will be considered : Special order to enclose and cover water-courses, which by reason of sewerage running therein have become a nuisance viz : "All thoio streams and watercourses running through block 37 in the Native Town of Greymouth, from Alexander street to Taiaui street sewer, and especially effect sections Nos, 161, IG2 163 a, 161, and 145 b, as is more particularly shewn and delineated on a plan prepared for the purpose and on view at the office of the Town Clerk."
Bernard's circus was again well patronised last night, when some new acts were introduced. The circus willbo again open to-Biglit, and to-morrow n matinee for children will be given, when special novelties will bo introduced. Italy, Egypt, Portugal, Cosla Rica Mexico, and Switzerland are now included in the list of countries to which penny post applies. The popular and talented company— Jubilee Singers, will appear in Erickson's Hall ; Totara Flat, on Thursday when the residents of that district may look forward to a great treat. The programme will bo similar to that given in largo towns, and as it will bo the first concert given in the now hall, we trust our country friends will rally round and give the visitors a cordial house. We again remind horse owners, trainers and jockeys that nominations for the Kumara races close this evening at 8 o'clock. Iu yesterday's nominations the trotting mare Prudence was inadvertably ommitted from the nominations -for the Ladie's Bracelet, Mawhera and Farewell Handicaps. Business people will notice by our advertising columns that the different banks in Greymouth will be closed on Saturday. 10th day of March, and Monday, 18th. Messrs T. W. Tymons and Co drapers and clothiers are now opening up their shipments of new winter goods ex steamship Kumara and Rimutaka—their change of advertisement will appear in to-mor-row's issue. Mr Maher is progressing favourably at the Hokitika hospital, though ho still suffers considerable pain in the ears. He expects to leave the institution in about three weeks.
The coal output from Westport for last week was 10,044 tons 17cwt, of which the "Westport Coal Company shipped operativo Company JS6I tons Bcwt.
Mr Albert Fowler, of the Hokitika Post and Telegraph Office, has left for Wellington to join the Seventh Contingent. He has passed the medical test hero, and will undergo tho shooting and riding tests in "Wellington, Mr R. W. J. McNeill, on Saturday afternoon submitted tho Eeeftnn Jockey Club's autumn meeting privileges, when tho following prices wore realised ; Grand stand publican's booth, Jas. Oabourne, £2l ; outsido publican's booth, G. H. Jones, £27; two refreshment booths, T. Cavell, £1 each ; saddling paddock, J. Stevenson, £4 ; cards of races, J. Noble. Total, £56 10s, or £ll less than tho amount realised last year.
To-morrow evening the Garrick Club stage one of their popular performances, and no doubt they will bo received by a crowded and thoroughly-pleased audience. In the musical prelude, Greymouth, will have the pleasure of hcai'ing Miss Eily Driscoll, of Wellington, a mezzo-soprano of rare sweetness, and Mr. J. Stcnhousc, a descriptive songsinger of great power. These two vocalists appear for the first time in Greymouth. Mr. George Moss, Greymouth's old time favorite, also contributes a humorous number. The burlesque is very strongly cast, as will be seen I>}' reference to the programme. The Misses Eosabel Weber, Hilda Holmes, M. Burke and Mr. C. L. Hertslett (the widow Mclnotle) take the leading lady characters, and Messrs. Guthrie, Phillips, Fogarty, Allan Smith, Parfitt, Tymons and O'Riolly, all good and capable actors, pourtray the male ones. The Nikau Ballet, by eight of Greymouth's prettiest maidens, is one of the most charming sights ever seen on any stage. The orchestra under Mr. Apted will give a good account of itself, as will also the stage staff under Mr. Andrew Grogan. The whole is under the management and directorship of Mrs. C. L. Hertslett, which is synonymous for a perfect entertainment.
The Waikafco Times reports that the red deer liberated at Galatea (on the borders of the Urcwera Country) are increasing. Some Keeves peasant were released in the same districts at the same time as the deer, but nothing lias been seen of them since. Trout arc said to be plentiful in the Rangitaiki Hirer and its tributaries near Galatea.
Edward VII. is the first English king whose head will bo printed on a postage stamp. Postage stamps werj introduced in 1841, four years after Queen Victoria's accession.
The amount of coal exported from Wesfport during the month of February was :—"Westport Coal Co.. 34,041 tons 9cwt; Mokihinui Co-operative Co., 2989 tons 8 cwt —total, 37,030 tons 10 cwt.
Tho German army's, new uniform will bo dark brown, and not khaki. There will bo no shiny buttons or buckles. Some of tho troops in Spandau have already been equipped.
