SINGER'S ART NEEDLEWORK EXHIBITION.

The Singer's Company art needlework, which opened on Monday, March 11th, is already attracting a largo number of ladies, who are really charmed with the dainty sample of needlework on show. All the work shown is executed on the Singer machine, and thoroughly proves the high state of perfection which they have attained. The showroom is in charge of Miss M'Lcan from Wellington, who will have much pleasure in instructing those ladies who have Singer machines in the art of executing the fancy needle work so much admired at the Company's branches throughout the colony. It hardly seems possible that the class of fine work shown can be really done on the machine—for instance, the drawn threadwork seems to excel any done by hand ; also the applique lace. The piece of work in particular commands attention, that being a copy of the famous picture, " The Last Mourner," finely executed in silk on canvas background set off by a suitable frame. Another picture is a man in kharki, the shading of the silk work and general colouring being exquisite. A very handsome piece of work is a full-length curtain, worked in silks on bolting cloth, both sides being alike, and the edges of the curtain being finely scalloped and button-holed. The exhibition will be open for one month onlj% and the ladies of Greymouth should avail themselves of the opportunity of learning this work, as the lessons are all free.

Mr. owny is the Company's agent ior this district, and may be consulted at Albert Street.
