FEDERATION REFERENDUM.
We are very pleased to see that Government Lave re-consiclered their decision and withdrawn the proposal to take a vote of the people of Now Zealand upon the question of federating with Australia, a Press Association telegram stating that the Cabinet has re-considered the question of taking the federation referendum contemporaneously with the census, and that project has been deferred indefinitely or in any case until such time as the report of the Commission has been presented to Parliament, and its contents made public throughout the country. The Ministry, it seems, have realised that the judgment the people delivered now could not be of the same value as later on, when fuller evidence will have received publicity. It is needless to here remark that second thoughts in this case are decidedly better than first. It will be ample time to submit the question to the people after it has been placed before the country in a practical manner and been well argued out,
