The Premier promised a deputation of prohibitionists this morning that he would have enquiries made into allegation that a Justice of the Peace at Balclutha had admitted to having taken liquor in a sly-grog house. The same deputation complained of, comments that were mado by Mr Stratford S.M reflecting on prohibitionists of Strathmore District and Taranaki. Mr Seddon declined to interfere with the Magistrate and faid public opinion tended in the direction of making Magistrates as independent as Supreme Court Judges.
