THE SALVATION ARMY.

In almost every town in the British Empire detachments of that vast Insitution, founded by General Booth, and known the world over as The Salvation Army, are to bo found. And wherever found their good works are to be seen. They have not sought thefashionable highways, where wealth and luxury exist, but have gone into the by-laws and the slums and there have done an immense amount of good. Many persons may not agree with their mode of worship, but none can deny the practical character of their Christianity. In this district a good many cases of timely aid could be recorded were such necessary; but it is not. Suffice it to say that at Greymouth the Army has done good work, and arc deserving of aid. They are now asking for assistance. They have no hall. From one place to another they have been moved until now they have determined to erect a building of their own. To enable them to do this they require to raise one-third of the money locally, and the remainder will be obtained from head-quarters. The proposal is to put up a building costing about £GOO. To do this £2OO is required locally, and this sum the Salvation Army people are determined to obtain. M r e need not say more. An institution that has done good service deserves recognition, and this hint we throw out to all who may feel inclined to assist. The smallest contributions will be welcomed.
