The Boers hardly pressed.
London, February 26. 20,000 civilian guards ha,ve been enrolled in Cape Colony. 1-ho steamer Tongamo convoys 1000 tq the Cape.
Lieut Wilford Campbell Wilson, of the Imperial Yeomanry, died of wounds received at Hartebeestefontein.
Private A Harrison (N Z Mounteds) died of enteric fever at Naauwpoort.
Mr Bennett Burleigh states that the Orange Eiver is still flooded, and tbe Boers are trekking east and north. The British columns are forming a wide cordon from the Orange river station to Norvalsport, and are closing in. The only means of escape left to the Boers is in swimming tha river. Da Wet and Steyn are close to Petrusville.
Prisoners admit that Botha has received a crushing blow, lie, with - • men, retreating in the direction of Komat’ Poort. In the House of Commons Mr Brodriek stated that 99 courts of inquiry were held regarding twenty cases of British surrenders in South Africa, resulting in the dismissal or placing on half pay or ten officers, and inflicting penalties on others, and that cases involving courtmartials will bo made public. Melbourne, February 26.
Wilfred Cliesncy Wilson died of wounds received at Haartbeestefontein. He was a son of the late Sir Samuel Wilson and went to South Africa last year.
