Janet Nicoll The Mapourika leaves Wellington this afternoon for Grey direct, sailing tomorrow for usual ports. The Janet Nicoll sails late to-night for Dunedin direct.
The Dingadee is clue to-morrow night with cargo from Southern ports. The Kini loaves Lyttelton on Thursday for Grey direct. The Wainui leaves Wellington on Wednesday for Grey via Pieton, Nelson, and Westport and is due here on Friday morning.
The Moa arrived last night from Wan ganui
The Herald arrived last night from Wellington. The Rosamond sailed on Saturday night for Lyttelton direct. The Orcti sailed on Saturday morning for Wanganui direct. The Kennedy sailed on Saturday at 4 p m for north.
The U.S.S. Co., have decided to abandon the South Sea Island Excursion by “Waikare” this winter.
According to advices received by a leading firm of shipowners in Melbourne the shipment of coal at Newcastle is now proceeding at an enormous rate, but the demand is still greater than the supply. Previous to the holidays (states the Age), the fleet of vessels detained there for cargo was reduced to under 70, but recent arrivals have brought the list up to 100, comprising some of the largest sailing vessels afloat. Some of the smaller coal companies have taken advantage of the pinch to demand 12s per ton for their staple, which in some eases has been paid to obtain despatch.
The steamer Hinemoa is due hero on Friday to load sleepers for the Government railways.
