De Wet Hard Pressed.
London, February 22. Colonel Plumer is following De Wet and compelling him to turn north in tho direction of Griqualand West. Ho is close on the enemy's heels.
Hettzog is northwards of Houwater.
Lieut- ol Gorringe and Major Haig are pursuing Kruitzinger northwards near Bethtsda.
The attackers of Kitchener's baggage train had carts in readines3 in a donga to transport tho loot. The Boars destroyed a culvert between Natal Spruit and Klip River. They captnred a train load of food stuffs and burned the train. Botha on the 10th racommended his followers never to surrender. He said that he would continue to lead them while 500 was left.
The burghers replied that it was difficult to continue the struggle when their ammunition was almost exhausted and the British are destroying the crops of food.
Botha replied that the Lord provided everything. Steyn and I)e Wet issued a fiery proclamation on January 14tb denying that the war is ended and urging retaliation for farm burning, and reiterating the old lies in regard to outrages upon Boer women by the British and advocating raids upon unfriendly colonists. In the House of Commons Mr Chamberlain announced that Sir A. Mtlner's salary as administrator of the new colonies would be £BOOO, and as High Commissioner of Sonth Africa £3OOO.
