HOKITIKA COAL DEPOSITS.
The Mayor of Hokitika, sent the following telegram to the Hon, the Premier ; “ Mco ing last night displayed keen interest in coal prospecting at Koiteraegi ; samples of coal from locality produced of excellent quality. Indications are such that it is felt no time should be lost in thoroughly prospecting the neighborhood. Meeting resolved send samples with explorers, report to Government Geologist for expression of opinion as to nature and locality best suited commerce prospecting. Meantime local canvas being made to raise funds. Felt it would be a useful stop if possible to get opinion of the experts on Coal Commission now at Grcymouth. Am not aware whether scope commission would enable this but if not, probably at your request gentlemen referred to might be good enough to make report on matter. Value of expert opinion at present stage would bo greatly appreciated and public would be very thankful it this suggestion could bo given effect to. ”
