In tho House of Commons an amendment moved to the Add-ess in Reply by T. P. Whittaker, regretting that the adequate Temperance Legislation was not intended to be carried into effect.
Ritchie replying foreshhadowed the introduction of a Bill dealing liberally with the prevention of drunkenness, including a black list for tho uso of publicans. The amendmcut was negatived by 27>5 to 140. Forty of tho Irish Party voted with tho Government.
