THE 'FRISCO MAIL.
(To the Editor),
Sin, —I shall be glad if you will allow me to call attention to the unnecessary delay in the arrival of the 'Frisco mail on the Coast. The 'Frisco mail arrived in "Wellington on Wednesday last, too late for the " Wainui." It was then despatched by the "Haupiri" on Friday, and be delivered on Monday. The Nelson portion was sent by the steamer to Blenheim, so as to be forwarded by the coach leaving that place on Thursday morning and reached Nelson that evening. The, "ltotorua" left Wellington on Thursday for Nelson, arriving there before 5 a.m. on Friday. Now, sir, can you inform me why the Postal authorities at Wellington could not have sent the Coast portion by the " llotorua " to Nelson, so that it could have come on by the coach, whereby it would have been delivered in Westport and Eeefton by five p.m. on Saturday and Greymouth by eight p.m. This is not the first instance the delay has been made, in fact I can truthfully say it frequently occurs. You find a steamer is kept waiting in Wellington to take East Coast portion in, but the West Coast can wait. I do not for one minute presume that the "Wainui " should have been delayed, but I do say this, that the authorities knowing the " Eotorua " would arrive in Nelson before
the coach mail left there, should have forwarded tho mail by that route. I sincerely hope the Chief Postmaster will take this delay in hand and endeavour to have it rectified in the future. Apologising for taking up so much of your valuable space.—J am, yours, etc.. 'Frisco Matt,.
