TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.

The annual meeting of the above society was held yesterday afternoon in the hall next to the Waverley Hotel. The President, Mr J. Foster, presiding, Those present were : Messrs J. Foster and Pate, Denniston. „ 11. Betts and J. Green, Reef ton. „ R. Russell and IT. Coppersmith, Br tinner.

„ W. Dent and Maddison. Granity. „ F. Shaw, Westport. „ A. Leach, Blackball.

Mr Russell moved that the Blackball Union and Westport Gold Miners Union be admitted and affiliated to the council. Mr Betts seconded and expressed pleasure that Westport and Blackball had decided to join the council. The motion was carried.

The Westport Union had about 200 o: the books and Blackball 70.

The President explained the rules of the Union allowed only one delegate for less than 100 members.

Mr Betts said his Union was not fully represented by proxy, as they were entitled to three representatives. Gn the suggestion of Mr Russell it was decided to allow Mr Betts to make arrangements to have Reef ton further represented. On Mr Russell's motion the .standing orders were suspended. Messrs Betts, tho President, the Secretary, Messrs Coppersmith, Leach, Shaw and Maddison were appointed an order paper committee.

It was 1 decided to meet next mornin at 0 30.

On the application of Mr Betts it was resolved that Mr Hill from the Blackball Uuion, act in conjunction with the delegates from the Reef ton Union. The order paper committee then proceeded to arrange the work for next day. (Continued on pago 3.)
