“ROSS JEWEL BOX.”
The Ross Flat claim—that wonderfully rich gold claim situate at Ross —is again to the fore. This mine twenty years ago got flooded out when it was proved to be richer ground than was ever found on the West Coast. Since then many abortive efforts have from time to time been made to overcome the water and an immense sum has been spent in their endeavours. Newer machinery and improved appliances give hope of bettor success, and a gentleman who has knowledge of such takes Home next month the necessary documents. Ho has an assurance that the necessary capital ,£50,000 will bo forthcoming. If the capital is raised, the Government will give a subsidy of £15,000, which is held will bo ample to overcome all obstacles and secure the gold that lies in this hollow on the Coast. Should the machinery prove sufficient to keep the water down, the weekly return of gold is estimated at from -100 to 500 ounces.
