Subsequently Colonel Plumor’s force of Australian Bushmen arrived with a Pompom and extricated 200 Imperial and South African Horse who were hard pressed by Haasbrock, 20 miles west of Colosburg. Colonel Plumer, pursuing the Boers westward, captured a Maxim and a great portion of De Wet’s ammunition train. The Daily mail states that De Wet and Stoyn crossed the Railway between Heutkraal and Potfontcin North on December 11th and destroyed two culverts. Colonel Crabde, in following De Wet, captured 14 waggons and some prisoners. General Do Lisle was given a frenzied welcome at Calvinia, where the Boers were cruelly vindictive in their exactions, and their wanton destruction recalled the worst scenes of the campaign in Northern Natal. Armoured trains with a Maxim killed 19 Boers, who were trying to destroy the railway at Edonburg, south of Bloemfontein, daring the night. Ai.ua.xy, February 17. With the exception of Wednesday night, when there was a heavy blow and the horses were knocked about a bit, the Cornwall had fine weather. Two horses died of pneumonia. The rest arc in fine condition. The troops came ashore, and the officers were entertained at the club. Troopers Butt and M'Cutchcon were invalided and sent to the hospital.
