[Before His Honor, Judge Ward.]
George and William Lawson and Edward Pring wore charged, on committal from the Magistrate’s Court, Kumara, with conspiring to defraud certain persons by salting a dredging claim known as Foley’s Extended.
Mr Hannan (Crown Prosecutor) appeared for the Crown, and Messrs Guinness and Murdoch for the defence.
P. Tanscy who was in the witness box for nearly five hours was subjected to a stiff cross-examination, but no new matter was disclosed.
William John M’llroy next gave evidence—identical with that previously reported. The Court adjourned at five o’clock until this forenoon when the examination of Mr M’llroy by the opposing Counsel will come first.
Ai the Court resuming this morning, the cross-examination of MTlroy was taken, but no new evidence was brought out.
J. Byrne is now being examined.
