KUMARA HEAD TEACHER.

A special meeting of the Kumara School Committee was held last evening for the purpose of recommending a headmaster for appointment by the Board to the Kumara State School,

Present —Rev E Whitehouso (chair), Messrs Jones, Henham, Marks, Haymos, Rudkin, Forster and Rev Clark (Hon sec.)

A letter was read from the Secretary of the Westland Education Board for 4 warding the names of the applicant! selected at a meeting of the members of that body, and asking the co-operation of die committee. The secretary stated that there were 40 applicants but the Board had restricted the choice to teachers in Westland district, as it was only fair that local teachers should be given a chance when opportunity offered.

After some discussion it was resolved to go into committee to consider the applications.

The following names of applicants were then submitted ;—J. J. Henderson, D.l ; W. D. Mackey, D.L Kanicri: G. H. Sinclair, D.L, Hokitika; H. Williara?W. D. 1., Stalfordtown ; W. Winchester, C.L Ross.

Resolved that the application be reduced by ballot to two and that the members of the press present take charge of the ballot. The ballot resulted in the names of Messrs Sinclair and Winceester being retained. In the final ballot Mr. Sinclair was the successful candidate.

Mr. Marks proposed and Mr. Rudkin seconded that Mr. Sinclair be recommended to the Board for appointment. Carried.
