John Higginson, a prominent member of tho Now Hebrides Company is visiting Sydney. In an interview ho said he did not think there was any chance of Franco giving up the New Ho brides for adequate concession elsewhere Ho denied that the Fronch wero using unfair means to acquire land in New Hebrides. He claimed the right of tha French Government to ;ho Islands, on tho grounds that French settlers wero there. Tho English were merely traders and preachers. It was practically a French settlement and io would bo best for everybody to bo under the French flag. Ho suggested that it be made a condition of annexation by Franco that they adopt the Open-door Policy.
