Bailway Changes.

Aldridge, railway stationmaster at Lumsden, is to be transferred to Balclutha instead of Dannevirke ; Burge, of Pahiatua, goes to Dannevirke ; Ballans, Waikari, to Pahiatua; Somerfield, of Papakura, to Waikari; and Smith, of Westport, to Papakura. Affairs in Samoa. Auckland, This Day.
Arrived the Manapouri from the South Sea Islands. Dr Solf, Governor of Samoa, is a passenger.
Dr Solfe, the German Governor of Samoa, states that the Mataafa natives surrendered 1,500 guns on the Emperor's birthdav, January 27th. All are now in no further fear of trouble, and are arranging with the Dutch Indies for the suppply of Malay labour for the plantations.
Suicide. Gisborne, This Day. At the inquest on Emma Biddies, aged 30, a verdict that she died from carbolic acid taken in a fit of temporary insanity was returned.
Ship all Right. At the cnqiiiry into the stability of the ship Grace Harwar, all the evidence went to show that tho ballast was sufficient and the vessel thoroughly stiff. Maori Witchcraft.
Napier, This Day. Honi Potu was found guilty of false pretences and practising witchcraft at Wairoa and sentenced to six months.
Forgery. Auckland, February 18.
In the Supreme Court, James Patriok Long pleaded guilty to several charges of forgery of bills and was sentenced to five years hard labour in each case, the sentence to be concurrent. The amount involved was about £2OOO.
Heavy Gale at Tonga. Auckland, This Day.
Tonga was visited by a heavy gale on the 27th January, when considerable damage was dono ashore and afloat. The fruit trees were stripped. No serious damage was done to European property. Several native vessels were wrecked, and one native drowned.
The Zior Fatality. Dunfdin, February 13. An enquiry into the drowning of the seaman Wahlburg from off the schooner Zior at the OtagoHeads on December Ist, it was found that the captain was blameworthy in not having lifebuoys on board, but there was insufficient evidence to show that the captain was aware that deceased was subject 'to fits, or otherwise unable to perform the duties of able seaman. The captain was ordered to pay the costs of the enquiry.
