CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

A meeting of the above Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs Harris (chair), Larkin, M'Lean, Matheson, M'Carthy, M'Kechnie Hargreaves and Russell. From Secretaries of various local bodies notifying the appointmentof its members. From Rev. Kempthorne, Nelson, in regard to the MTntyre boys, asking for cheque for maintenance. From Inspector of Police supplying information which the Board asked for in regard to families receiving aid. After consideration the aid given was reduced to 3/6 per week per child. From Health Officer asking the number of chronic cases in the Grey district; also in regard to tho establishment ,of a home for such cases. Referred to the Hospital Trustees. Mr M'Carthy brought up a case of where a man named Leech had deserted his wife, leaving her and her children dependant on the Board. Mr Harris said an example ought to be made of him.

Mr M'Carthy moved that the man be brought back.—Carried. Mr Russell brought up a similar case. Resolved that the woman be instructed to take a maintenance order out. Accounts amounting to £72 3s were passed for payment.
