General Destruction and Loss of Life.

Sydney, February 11. The bush fires destroyed forty thousand acres of grass in the Albury district, and two thousand bags of wheat. Melbourne, February 11.

A man named Jones succumbed to injuries while fighting the fires at Birrcgurra. The fires arc still raging in the Barnholme district.

Many series cases of burning are reported. It is feared the loss of life at Myamyn will bo many. The Catholic Church, sawmills, railway contractors camps, and much railway property, and a large number of stock, have been destroyed at Chomley. Killeens Station was devastated. The ladies had to take refuge in swamps. The Telegraph lines are destroyed in all directions.

Hopetoun cabled his sympathy to the sufferers.

Hobart, February 11. Fires are still burning in the hills in Queenstown district. It is reported that a child was burned to death. A fund has been opened for the sufferers.
