CONCERNING CONTINGENTS.
(per press assoclvtion.)
Wellington, February 8-
The Secretary of State for the Colonies has communicated with the Government asking whether it is intended to send any further contingents to fill up the losses in the ranks of the New Zealanders, and if so when?
The Premier has also received further communications from a New Zealand officer at the front, from which it appears that there is a general, feeling that the men who have been there for twelve months ought to be permitted to return, and that others should be sent to take their places. The Fourth and Fifth Contingents votuuteered to serve until the endjof the war, or for 12 months. The war is not yet ouer aud the twelve mouths will expire in March. The question will be considered by the Cabinet on Monday.
