THE ANGLICAN SYNOD.

(per press association.)

Napier, February 6.

The General Synod only held a morning session to-day, the afternoon and evening being occupied with a public meeting in c mnection with the Melanesian mission.

With reference to the following resolutions,—That now that fifty years have passed since the beginning of the Melanesion mission, thisSynnd dssires to express its thankfulness to Almighty God for the many blessings He Las bestowed upon its work, and it hopes that a new vessel may be speed ! v acquire'! by which the most distant Isl inds entrusted to the Cjro of the mission maybi reached by the Bishop and Clergy. Several speakers spoke of the great work of the Melanesian mission and its claim on the support of the country with men and money.

The appeal of the Wellington diocesian trustees against the decision of the diocesan synod to lease church lands at Masterton was sustained.

The general Synod to-day passed a resolution of sympathy with Dean Jacobs’s family, and his services to the church were highly eulogised.

A motion was passed recommending the committee on trusts to subscribe £2OO for the erection of a Bishop’s at Dunedin, and £75 towards the reduction of the debt on the Bishop’s court, W ellington, conditionally on the diocese raising £225, and a similar conditional allocation was made to the Bishopric Endowment fund, Wellington. There was considerable discussion on the motion of Archdeacon Cholmondeley to allow lessons to bo read from the revised revision of the Bible if it were desired. It was ultimately lost. A motion asking the Bishops to revise the list of lessons and pupils was also lost.
