Great Destruction of Property and
Loss of Life.

A heat wave accompanied by a disastrous bush lire occurred in many districts.
At Banxhohuc besides a great destruction of stock and other property, a number of residences were burned. A man named MTntosh was burned to death and several others were injured. At Condah the Roman Catholic Church and several houses were destroyed. The railway bridges and culverts were burned at Warrnambool. Five houses were burned at the outskirts of tho town of IV angaratfca.
Reports from Sydney state that the express had to run through a largo area of burning country, and the passengers were treated to a magnificent spectacle.
At Scarsdal several houses were destroyed. In the Buninyong district a vast area of grass was burned, and much stock lost. It is feared that somo life was lost in the Ballarat district.
Some mining plants are threatened in other districts. Many outlying settlers were burned out. •
