Death of Dean Jacobs

Christchurch, Februry 7.

Dean Jacobs died last night. Ho arrived hero on Dec 17, 1850, by one of the “first four ships” and was the first headmaster of Christ’s College. Ho was appointed Dean of Christchurch in 18G6. Distinguished Visitors.

Wellington, February 6

Among the passengers by the Monowai to-night are Major Willoughby, military secretary to Lord Hopetoun (who accompanied Dr Jameson on his famous raid), Captain Corbett, A. D. C. to Lord Hopetoun, Hons. J. Frost and Moore, South African delegates to tho Australian Commonwealth inauguration ccremonits, and Judge Denniston.

Trade Dispute.

Auckland, February 6,

The Conciliation Board resumed for consideration of the despute in the building trade. Considerable discussion took place on the clause giving preference to unionists which was strongly opposed by the masters. Tho Board will give its finding next week. Supreme Court. Wellington, This Day. Justice Denniston is presiding in the Supreme Court to-day, relieving the Chief Justice. .
