GOLD MINING NEWS.

The recent rains have given miners at Back Creek and Kumara an ample supply of water for some time to come.

Messrs Graham Bros, of Waiho, ari now hard at work opening a face for sluicing, having made satisfactory arrangement for a water lease from the Waiho Sluicing Company.

5/Ir. Edwards who is to erect' the electric light plant on the Greenstone Junction Company’s dredge, arrived at Kumara on Saturday. We understand that ho is also going to erect one on the Three Mile Coy’s dredge. The contractors for the driving of the Stafford damage tunnel have now finished sinking their new shaft opposite Rodda’s mill and erecting their machinery. They are now entering on the last stage of their contract. Before many months pass by, something tangible —in the way of a lead of gold-bearing - wash— should be found.

A large quantity of blue gum was sold by the Brandy Jack Gold Dredging Company to the Mosquito Gold Dredging Company. About (3,000 feet of this timber was taken to the Brandy Jack claim a few months ago, but is now being taken away again. The Mining Journal reports that the company is going to acquire a new claim. This looks doubtful when they are selling the timber which was to be used for the construction of pontoons.

White and party arc _ now sluicing at Kumara into the main tail race and should be properly opened out by Easter. The face is looking remarkably well and a big washing is expected. The channel is working like a cyclone and reflects the greatest credit on Mr Gordon Harcourt, who had the supervision of the whole of the work.
