RETURNING TROOPERS.
On Saturday Trooper Quinn, who had proceeded to South Africa with the Fifth Contingent, returned to town invalided. His Worship the Mayor, on behalf of the citizens, accorded him a hearty welcome, and made a touching reference to the late Trooper Martin, lie intimated that it was intended when the other two troopers now on their way back arrived, to meet them and in a more formal manner acknowledge their services. This forenoon a large number assembled on the wharf to meet Troopers Newsome, "Vinson and Leslie, but only the latter arrived, the other two being detained at Westport. The Mayor accorded Trooper Leslie a cordial welcome, and invited him to be present at the gathering to he held later on. At the invitation of Lieutenant Lutz, Troopers Leslie and Quinn went to the Wharf Hotel, where a number of residents assembled to renew their acquaintance, and pledge old friendship.
