A careful estimate places the Boer losses for December at 150 killed, 400 wounded, 200 prisoners and a hundred surrenderors. The losses for January are about the same. Botha’s headquarters are at EoostenViijcjen’s commando is in the eastern ■ district north of the railway.
The Hand mine-owners are paying £-10,000 a month to twelve hundred men as mine guards.

A squadron of Hussars surrounded a farm near Standcrton and captured six sleeping Boers and released some Englishmen who were prisoners.
