New Zealanders Killed and Wounded.
De Wet again escapes
London, January 29. The Australian and New Zealand casualties near Balmoral on the 23rd are:
New Zealand Mounted Infantry— Private F. W. Ceclrail, killed; Private E. A. Wigmore, dangerously wounded, sinco dead; Private W. Paul, Corporal Seavill and Captain G. Crawshaw, severely wounded ; Sergeant S. J. Henderson, dangerously wounded. Do Wet and Peterson, commanding 500, crossed a line between Yentersburg and Holfontein during the night and escaped, though 25 Britishers in ambush killed five Boers. Beeves has handed Roberts a historic greenstone mere on behalf of Maori admirers.
Napier, This Day. A large crowd turned out to welcome Lieutenant Hughes, Corporal Emerson, Troopers Trotter, Erogh, Chapman and Peterson on their return from the Transvaal.
The proceedings were only formal, owing to the (Jueen's death. It is intended to suitably entertain all the returned men next week.
