AUSTRALIAN TRADE RETURNS.

Melbourne, This Day. Compared with 1899 the imports show an increase of £318,000.
The gold and silver bullion imported decreased by £1,334,000, but merchandise increased by £1,683,000. The exports decreased £'1,115,01)0.
The decrease in wool was £1,574,000 ; wheat, £359,000; sheepskins, £181,000; bullion specie, £239,000. Other goods increased by £1,210,000, bringing down the net decrease.

The total value of exports from the colony last year was £9,072,000, being a decrease of nearly two million as compared with the previous year. The imports amounted to £7,052,000, -being an increase of £IOO,OOO over the preceding year. The export of sugar fell from £1,103,000 to £OOO,OOO. The wool export decreased £1,182,000.
