GOLD DREDGING MARKET.
Referring to the market for dredging shares, the Mining News says that it has ruled dull and the general tendency ha 9 b?en downwards. In Otago the dredges have been prevented from operating owing to the flooded state of the rivers, and the returns last week were appreciably less than in the corresponding week of last year. With values dropping as they are there ought to be an excellent opportunity for tho enterprising speculator, at the same time it must bo stated that it requires but very little to send the market into aetivity. In all probability, however there will bo no life in the market until about tho end of February, by which time the dredges should bo in profitable work. On the West Coast operations have been suspended for a variety of causes and tho returns have been extremely poor. Grey River shares have taken a downward turn and most of the other West Coast stocks have fallen in sympathy. Tho present dullness will soon pass away, as several new machines will be at work in the course of a few weeks. The market is at the moment extremely favourable to buy.
