CONFLAGRATION AT HUNTERVILLE.

Fifteen Places Destroyed.

Estimative Damage £20,000.

Marton, This Day. Shortly after midnight a fire broke out in the front portion of David Hollam's store, Hunterville, and it quickly spread to the adjoining premises. Fifteen shops and the Argylo Hotel were destroyed namely: I lancock, Saddler; Bray, Hairdresser ; McEldowney, Draper; Argylo Hotel; Ryan, Tailor; Argyle Stables : Remington, Chemist; Skerman, new premises; Mrs Currie, Fruiterer; Morris, Grocer: Temperance Hall and Library; Quen Lee, Fruiterer; Batt, Dentist and portion of Harper's stables. A Chinaman's cabinet making shop was also destroyed. Only three shops in the extreme end of Bruce Street are standing. The fire would have extended only tho Brigade pulled down a portion of Harper's stables. In the other sireet the lire was stopped by placing sheets of iron against Argyle stables. Tho damage is estimated at £'20,000. Tho following companies are interested in amounts varying from JEBOO to £ISOO : —United Imperial Alliance, Australian Alliance, Commercial, Union, Royal, New Zealand, Standard, London, and Liverpool.
