BLENHEIM TO WELLINGTON.

A worthy object held in View by a prominent member of local shipping circles (says the Marlborough Times) is the establishment of quick river service, rendering it possible to run a daily milk supply from Blenheim to Wellington. The idea is that a steamer should leave Blenheim every night at 10 o’clock and arrive at the Empire City at, say 5 o’clock in the morning. With two boats, it is said, there would be no difficulty in carrying out such a service; but the scheme has other important details. It would be necessary to pay a good deal of attention to the navigableness of the river, and the first requirement would be the formation of a Harbor Board which would keep a dredge at work all the year round and. maintain a direct outlet through the Boulder Bank. It is estimated that the levying of dues representing sixpence or one shilling on every ton of cargo, excepting coal, would amply provide for the expenses of such work.
